The family of renowned Nigerian football icon, Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, has announced his passing, bringing to a close the remarkable life of one of Nigeria’s most respected football tacticians and administrators.
In a statement released by Mrs. Bolade Adesuyi on behalf of the family, the late High Chief, a respected Modakeke High Chief and the first indigenous Nigerian coach of the Nigeria national football team, passed away a few minutes ago.
The family expressed gratitude to God for what they described as a fulfilled and impactful life, noting that Onigbinde’s contributions to Nigerian football and the global sporting community remain immeasurable.
Described as a devoted father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, the late football legend was celebrated for his dedication to the development of football in Nigeria and his outstanding service to the nation.
The family prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul, committing him into the bosom of the Lord Jesus Christ while expressing hope of a joyful reunion in eternity.
“Good night till we meet to part no more,” the family said in the emotional announcement.
