President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including the United Nations.
The list, released on Friday by the State House, includes 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and advance its foreign policy objectives globally.
Among the prominent non-career nominees are former senator Grace Bent, posted to Lome, Togo; former presidential aide Ita Enang to South Africa; and former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia.
Others include former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico, former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, and businessman-turned-politician Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Also on the list is former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole, who has been posted to Ottawa, Canada.
Other notable assignments include Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, Ayodele Oke to France, Yakubu N. Gambo to Saudi Arabia, and Senator Nora Ladi Daduut to Seoul, South Korea.
The career diplomats posted to various missions include Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger Republic, Monica Okwuchukwu Enebeli to Sao Tome and Principe, and Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria.
Others are Ambassador Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica, Ambassador Clark-Omeru Alexandra to Zambia, Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.
The presidency disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to London.
Similarly, the French government has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke as Nigeria’s envoy to France.
The statement added that the ministry has forwarded the nominations of the remaining 62 ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries, requesting diplomatic consent in line with established international procedures.
President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their formal deployment.
