The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has dissociated himself from reports attempting to link him to the recent abduction of the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in the recent abduction and subsequent rescue operation involving Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons, a case that has attracted widespread attention across Oyo State and beyond.
In a statement on Sunday by his media office and obtained by Journalists, Senator Alli described as false, malicious and baseless a social media publication that sought to connect him with the kidnapping of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her children.
The lawmaker condemned the report as irresponsible, defamatory and politically motivated, insisting that it lacked credibility and was designed to tarnish his reputation.
According to the statement, Senator Alli, a serving senator, legal practitioner and Ibadan High Chief, has built a reputation for public service, leadership and advocacy for peace over several decades, making any attempt to associate him with criminal activities both absurd and illogical.
“The publication is a reckless attempt to drag Senator Alli’s hard-earned reputation into criminal allegations based on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect currently under investigation,” the statement said.
The media office stressed that the senator had no connection whatsoever with the abduction incident, the individuals involved or any activity related to kidnapping and violence.
It further argued that attempts to associate campaign materials or political stickers with criminal acts exposed what it described as a desperate effort by political opponents to discredit a prominent political figure whose acceptance and popularity continue to expand across Oyo State.
The statement also noted that even reports being circulated acknowledged that no security agency had established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.
“It is disturbing that faceless propagandists would deliberately weaponise unconfirmed claims to mislead members of the public and create unnecessary political tension,” the statement added.
Reaffirming his stance against criminality, Senator Alli condemned kidnapping and all forms of violent crimes, emphasizing his longstanding support for initiatives aimed at improving security and safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State and the country.
The APC governorship candidate urged residents of the state and the general public to disregard the publication and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of undermining ongoing security investigations.
He also called on security agencies to investigate the origin of what he described as a malicious narrative and ensure that individuals responsible for disseminating false information and engaging in political blackmail are brought to justice.
The statement however, reiterated Senator Alli’s commitment to his legislative responsibilities, the welfare of the people of Oyo State and his vision of building a safer, more prosperous and united state.
